Corbett National Park, renowned worldwide as a prime tiger reserve, offers wildlife enthusiasts an unparalleled opportunity to witness the majestic Bengal tiger in its natural habitat. The park is divided into several ecotourism zones, each offering a unique wildlife experience. Among these, the Bijrani zone stands out as one of the most favored areas for tiger sightings, second only to the famed Dhikala zone.
Why Choose Bijrani Zone?
The Bijrani zone is distinguished by its breathtaking scenery featuring vast grasslands called Chaurs, dense Sal forests, and numerous waterholes and streams that support a rich biodiversity. This combination creates an ideal environment for tigers and other wildlife to thrive. Visitors to Bijrani have a high chance of spotting Bengal tigers along with leopards, wild elephants, black bears, and various deer species like Chital, Sambar, and Hog Deer. Birdwatchers will also find this zone rewarding, with around 600 species of resident and migratory birds calling this area home.
Entry Point and Accommodation
The gateway to the Bijrani zone is the Aamdanda Gate, conveniently located just about 1 km from Ramnagar city. After passing through a 5 km buffer zone, tourists enter the core forest area where the safari takes place. For those wishing to extend their stay, two forest rest houses—Bijrani FRH and Malani FRH—are available, providing an authentic jungle experience. While night safaris are not allowed, guests can enjoy an elephant safari, which is unique to the Bijrani and Dhikala zones. Elephant rides are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Safari Booking and Guidelines
To explore Bijrani, visitors must secure an entry permit, which can be booked online up to 45 days in advance or on the same day at the forest office in Ramnagar, subject to availability. Along with the permit, hiring a safari jeep and a guide (known locally as a naturist) is compulsory. Each jeep accommodates up to six adults and two children (under 12 years), plus the driver and guide. Given the popularity of this zone, only 30 safari jeeps are permitted per shift, making early booking essential to avoid disappointment.
Accommodation Near Bijrani Zone
Tourists opting for a day safari in Bijrani often choose to stay in Dhikuli village, located just outside the park’s boundary. This area offers a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hotels to luxury resorts, catering to diverse preferences and budgets.
